On Wednesday, Feb. 3, the Gettysburg Area DFA Meetup will sponsor a panel of local experts to address the question: "One Year In With Obama: Is Real Change Still on the Agenda for America?” Add your voice to the discussion at 7:00 pm in room 206 of Valentine Hall in the Lutheran Seminary. The meeting is open to the public, so Invite your friends! Our discussion will address challenges of 2010 on a wide range of topics such as-- --Will economic recovery mean jobs for Americans? --Can health insurance reform make it through Congress? --Can government overcome political gridlock to address climate change? Panelists include Dr. Charles Weise, an economist; Dr. Bruce Larson, a political scientist; and environmental geologist Dr. Sarah Principato. All three are faculty members at Gettysburg College. In a recent article in the Financial Times, Dr. Weise argued that “a job rich recovery is still possible.” Obama, according to Weise, has “followed a middle-of-the-road policy that has been fairly successful.” Dr. Larson focuses on American political parties in his research and in particular on prospects for campaign finance reform. “This is especially important,” he commented, “now that the Supreme Court has ruled to allow unlimited spending by big corporations on elections.” Dr. Principato is a geologist whose research focuses on glacial geology and climate change. After brief presentations from each panelist, you will be invited to ask questions and participate in the discussion with Charles, Bruce, and Sarah on what to expect in 2010 and what we can do about it. Please come! Check our Events Calendar for more!
